Latest news: Prof. Dmitry Pelinovsky
- July, 2006: Scientific Program Committee at the Fifth Conference on
Nonlinear Evolution Equations: I will act as a member of the Scientific Program
Committee at the Fifth International Conference on Nonlinear Evolution Equations
and Wave Phenomena in April 16-19, 2007, Athens, GA, USA.
- May, 2006: New undergraduate student:
My group on mathematical modelling in physical sciences is joined by Mike Lukas in his
summer undergraduate program. The summer program is funded by the NSERC URSA scholarship.
Mike will be working on symbolic (MATHEMATICA) computations of persistence and stability of vortex
configurations in three-dimensional cubic nonlinear crystals.
- March, 2006: New awards (NSERC Discovery, Humboldt, EPSRC): My three applications
for three individual grants were all awarded! The NSERC Discovery Research Grant will be used to fund
my group at McMaster University for 2006-2011. The Humboldt Research Fellowship is awarded to support my
one-year sabbatical program at University of Stuttgart (Germany) for September 1, 2006 - August 31, 2007
(to work in the group of Prof. G. Schneider). The EPSRC Research Fellowship is awarded to support
my research visits to University of Bristol and University of Warwick (UK) for October 1, 2006 - March 31, 2007
(to work in the groups of Prof. A. Champneys and R. MacKay).
- February, 2006: Workshop organization:
I organize the workshop "Young Mathematician Conference in PDEs and Dynamical Systems - III"
(with M. Pugh) " at the Fields Institute in April 28-29, 2006. The workshop is the third
annual conference for yound mathematicians from Canada and USA to deliver their research work
and to exchange ideas with their senior colleagues.
- January, 2006: Minisymposium in SIAM Conference on Nonlinear Waves:
I organize the minisymposium "Stability of nonlinear waves in Pontryagin space" (with R. Kollar) at the
SIAM Conference on Nonlinear Waves in September 9-12, 2006, Seattle, WA, USA.
The minisymposium will feature specialized lectures on new advances in stability theory for solitary waves
in Hamiltonian partial differential equations.
- December, 2005: Sabbatical year: My application for 2006-2007 research leave
was granted by the department of mathematics, McMaster University. I plan to be away for the period
of July 1, 2006 to June 30, 2007.
- October, 2005: New postdoc, Dr. Ranis Ibragimov
(Ph.D. - Waterloo, 2005): My group on mathematical modeling in physical sciences
will be joined by a new postdoctoral fellow, Dr. Ranis Ibragimov for January 2006
- August, 2007. Ranis's expertise is in fluid dynamics, nonlinear ordinary differential
equations, and symmetry groups. He will replace Dr. V. Gubernov, who was unable to arrive to Canada.
- June, 2005: New undergraduate student:
My group on mathematical modelling in physical sciences is joined
by Marcella Fioroni in her summer undergraduate program. The summer program is funded
by HRSDC Summer Career Employment scholarship, which she has secured. Marcella will be working on
numerical approximations of multi-pulse solitary wave solutions in the fifth-order
KdV equation and computations of eigenvalues of the associated linearized operator.
- May, 2005: Receipient of the Visiting Fellowship of the Ambassade de France au Canada:
I have been awarded by the visiting fellowship from the Ambassade de France au Canada for
a visit to the Institute Non Lineaire de Nice in France for June-July 2005.
During this summer visit, I will be working with Prof.
Gerard Iooss in the areas of travelling waves in discrete lattices.
- April, 2005: Writer of the textbook "Numerical Laboratory for Undergraduate Mathematics":
Our project of the textbook (with M. Grasseli) is accepted by Jones and Bartlett Publishers for publication
in 2006. The book will feature the use of numerical methods and MATLAB functions in elementary courses of mathematics,
such as Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, and Numerical Analysis.
