- August, 2003: Research-in-team at Fields Institute:
Research-in-team programme "Rigorous analysis of parametric resonance of
dispersion-managed solitons" is approved by the Fields Institute -
McMaster University Programme in Mathematical Sciences.
The program will be working for August 18-29, 2003 as collaboration
between visiting scientists: S. Cuccagna, E. Kirr, A. Tovbis, and M. Weinstein.
One-day workshop "Resonances in linear and nonlinear Schrodinger equations"
is scheduled on August 22, 2003, where leading experts in the topic will
give series of lectures at Fields Institute.
- May, 2003: Encyclopedia on Nonlinear Science:
I have written eight entries to new Encyclopedia on Nonlinear Science,
to be published by Taylor & Francis in the end of 2003. The entries
are "Numerical methods", "Linearization", "Spectral analysis", "Generalized
functions", "Coupled systems of partial differential equations", "Energy analysis",
"Manley-Rowe relations", and "N-wave interactions".
- April, 2003: Minisymposiums at the Third Conference on
Nonlinear Evolution Equations: I organized two minisymposiums at the
Third International Conference on Nonlinear Evolution Equations in April 6-10, 2003,
Athens, GA, USA. The minisymposiums were entitled: "Stability and bifurcations of
solitary wave solutions" (with R. Choudhury and D. Kaup) and "Continuous and discrete
spatial solitons" (with Z. Muslimani and J. Yang). Each minisymposium
attracted about 15 people, specializing in mathematical analysis and
applications of solitons in nonlinear optics.
- January, 2003: New graduate student:
My group on mathematical modeling in fiber and photonic optics is joined
by Dmitry Agueev in his M.Sc. program. Dmitri will be studying problems of
modelling of three-dimensional photonic crystals with coupled-mode equations.
- May, 2002: Visiting fellowship award:
I have been awarded by EPSRC Visiting Fellowship to
Loughborough University (U.K.) for summer work with
Dr. Vassilis Rothos. The fellowship will be used in
July, 2002 and May, 2003 for two-month research work on
the project "Long-time dynamics of localised structures
in the modified NLS and massive Thirring models".
- April, 2002: CFI/OIT grant award:
My project "Computing infrastructure for mathematical modeling
in fiber and photonic optics" has been fully supported by CFI/OIT-funded
New Opportunity Program. The grant will be used towards improving the
computing infrastructure of my group on
mathematical research and modeling. In addition,
a new web server with interactive software simulations will be
launched within this project.
