Latest news: Prof. Dmitry Pelinovsky
- March, 2002: New postdoc, Dr. Vitali Vougalter
(Ph.D. - GeorgeTech, 2000): We are pleased to announce that
the applied mathematics group at McMaster will be joined by
a new postdoctoral fellow, Dr. Vitali Vougalter for July, 2002 - July, 2004.
Vitali's speciality is in equations of mathematical physics, scattering theory,
Schrodinger and Dirac operators.
- January, 2002: New graduate student:
My group on mathematical modeling in fiber and photonic optics is joined
by Clayton Webster in his M.Sc. program. Clayton will be studying problems of
computational electromagnetic theory, in a joint project with Apollo Photonics
Inc.
- December, 2001: New interdisciplinary projects:
Three new interdisciplinary projects are just launched in my group on
mathematical modeling at McMaster: (i) modeling of photonic crystals,
in cooperation with Electrical Engineering at McMaster University and
University of Toronto; (ii) stationary Maxwell equations for waveguide
interfaces, in cooperations with Apollo Photonics Inc., and
(iii) computations of the zero-potential surfaces in
semiconductor devices, in cooperations with Advanced Nanotechnology
Center at University of Toronto.
- September, 2001: AIMS Laboratory:
The Department of Mathematics at McMaster University will be
building up the new Applied and Industrial Mathematical Sciences
(AIMS) Laboratory in the new James Stewart Centre for Mathematics.
The approved CFI/OIT project on foundation of the AIMS Laboratory will allow to
create a high-performance computational infrastructure for applied
mathematics at McMaster.
- May, 2001: CLL grant award: My project
"Development of web-enabled software for learning differential
equations" has been supported by a grant of the Center for
Leadership in Learning (CLL) at McMaster University.
A small group of students will be working on web-interactive
software during Summer-Fall, 2001.
- March, 2001: NSERC grant award:
My project "Theory and modeling of a periodic nonlinear Schrodinger
equation" has been supported by a four-year operating NSERC grant.
It is now possible to attract more graduate students and
postdocs into my group studying mathematics of solitons and optical PDEs.
- February, 2001: New postdoc, Dr. Henrik Kalisch
(Ph.D. - University of Texas, 2001): We are very pleased to announce
a new postdoc in our group - a fresh graduate of University of Texas, Dr. H. Kalisch
(Ph.D. advisor - Prof. J. Bona). For 2001-2003 he will join the applied mathematics
group at McMaster University studying solitons and PDEs in applications to fluids
and nonlinear optics.
